Artists can rent an art exhibition gallery space to display their work. It is one of the most popular art galleries in the city. Weekly art exhibitions featuring local and international artists are held at the exhibition gallery.
Because of its resemblance to a cave, the gallery is known as gufa. Previously known as Husain-Doshi ni Gufa, it was named after its architect, B.V. Doshi, and the artist, M.F. Husain. It was later renamed after the city of Ahmedabad, which is known locally as Amdavad.
The modern architecture of the structure is inspired by ancient and natural themes. The domes are inspired by tortoise shells and soap bubbles. The roof mosaic tiles are similar to those found on the roofs of Girnar's Jain temples, and the mosaic snake is from Hindu mythology. Doshi's interior design was inspired by the Buddhist caves of Ajanta and Ellora, while Husain's wall paintings are inspired by Paleolithic cave art. The interior is divided by tree trunks or columns reminiscent of Stonehenge.
The Gufa and Exhibition Gallery are open daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., except on Mondays and public holidays.
